Questions families ask.

Helping families find the right home and care, at no cost to them.

Chapter I · Whether it is time

Start here, because almost everyone starts here.

I am not sure it is time yet.

You are not overreacting, and you are not alone in this. Most families feel exactly what you are feeling right now. Noticing two or three things does not mean you have to act today. It means it is worth talking it through with someone who has done this before.

Chapter II · The work

What he actually does, and what the first call is.

What does Brooks do?

Brooks helps families find the right home and care for an aging parent. He learns what is going on, narrows the options down to the few worth your time, and stays with you through touring and the paperwork.

What happens on the call?

It is about twenty minutes and there is no cost and nothing to prepare. A free placement consultation call is a conversation, not a commitment. Brooks asks what is going on, and you decide what happens next.

Chapter III · The money

The part most families are afraid to ask about.

What does it cost me?

Nothing. There is no cost to you or your parent for what Brooks does. The communities pay him when a family finds the right fit. That is how the work is paid for, and he would rather you hear it from him than wonder about it.

How much does senior living cost?

That depends on the level of care, the area, and the community, and it is not a number worth guessing at. It is one of the first things Brooks walks through on a call, with real figures for the specific places that would fit.

Chapter IV · No easy answers

Three questions that do not have a short answer, and why.

What kind of care does my parent need?

That is the question Brooks helps you answer, and most families genuinely do not know at this stage. It is completely normal to say “not sure yet.”

Which community do you recommend?

Brooks does not hand out a list before he understands the situation, because the right answer depends entirely on care level, location and budget. After a call he sends the few he would actually look at, and suggests touring the top two before touring anything else.

Is my mom safe at home? Does this sound like dementia?

I am not able to give medical or safety advice, and I would not want to guess about your mom. That is a conversation for her doctor, and Brooks can talk through what the options look like either way. If something feels urgent right now, call him directly at 360‑746‑2218.

Chapter V · Where, and who

The practical two.

What areas do you serve?

Bellingham, Blaine and Birch Bay, and the surrounding Whatcom County area. If you are somewhere else, call 360‑746‑2218 and Brooks will confirm whether he can help or point you to someone who can.

Who is Brooks?

Brooks Friedland. He was an EMT with San Juan Island EMS before he ever sold a house, has been licensed in Washington since 1998, and lives in Birch Bay. He now spends his time helping families work out what comes next for a parent.

If there is a short clock

My parent is being discharged from the hospital.

That is a short clock and worth a call today rather than a form. Brooks’s number is 360‑746‑2218.

However you reach him, it starts the same way.

Call 360‑746‑2218 and ask for Brooks, or book a twenty minute call and he will come to you. If you would rather read something first, the seven signs a parent needs more support is the one most families start with: get.seniorhomeadvisor.com/7-signs.
